It is my heart dog’s birthday, she is 4 today and it has made me reminisce about how she has helped me over the years and the great times we have had together. She has been something of an assistance dog to me, comforted me when I needed it, helped give me independence where I would otherwise struggle and completely changed my lifestyle. We have achieved so much together and I am incredibly grateful for that.
I remember researching the Alaskan Malamute breed for hours on end. I wanted one for as long as I could remember, so when the time finally came to add one to our family it felt like a dream come true.
We found a great breeder and were invited to visit the kennels. It was a 6 and a half hour round trip but so worth it. We met all of the dogs and our potential puppy with the rest of the young litter. The breeder matches each puppy to the owners so we didn’t know who was ours at that point, but one little girl ran straight up to my husband and chewed on his shoelaces, and a week or so later we found out that she would be the one.
It is amazing what animals can do for a person. They never judge you, and although they can be a difficult at times they just want to be looked after, loved and love you. We could learn a lot from our canine friends.
Love you, girl.
